घर पाहावे बांधून, अशी आपल्याकडे एक म्हण आहे. अर्थात घर बांधणे ही किती कठीण गोष्ट आहे, आणि ते येरागबाळ्याचे काम कसे नाही, असा त्याचा अर्थ मराठी समाजमनात पक्का ठसलेला आहे.
कालौघात, आता घराची जागा सदनिकांनी घेतली आहे आणि बांधण्याची जबाबदारी व्यावसायिक बिल्डर्सनी. पण तरीही ते अजूनही तितकेच अवघड काम आहे.
बहुतांश लोक अजूनही आयुष्यात एकदाच सदनिका घेत असल्यामुळे, घेणाऱ्यांच्या अपेक्षा गगनाला भिडलेल्या असतात. 'घर पाहावे बांधून' ह्या म्हणीची जागा आता त्यामुळेच, '(चांगला) बिल्डर पाहावा शोधून', ह्या म्हणीने घेतली आहे, असं म्हणायला हरकत नाही.
अश्या ह्या परिस्थितीत माझी स्थिती आणखीच मजेदार होती. आमच्या वडिलोपार्जित घरात आता अनेक हिस्सेदार होते. आम्हासगळ्यांना अर्थातच जमिनीचा जास्तीतजास्त मोबदला देईल, असा बिल्डर हवा होता. पण त्याच वेळी आम्हाला स्वतःलाही राहण्यास सदनिकाही हव्या असल्याने, त्या रास्त दारात, उत्तम बांधलेल्या, आणि लवकरातलवकर, हव्या होत्या....
